Here are a couple books I picked up used off ebay that I'm currently reading.
I watched a few of Jill Chamberlain's interviews on the Film Courage YouTube channel and decided to pick up her book. She breaks the protagonist down into very basic ideas so you can see how they progress through the movie. It seems like some of the other books I've read (Save the Cat, Screenplay) where it feels like maybe you're following a formula to get your script written, but I'm only about 40 pages into it, and I think it will wind up being helpful.
Not too far into this book yet, but it's got some great insight as to why some movies have staying power and why others don't.
One example I read last night was comparing Jim Lowell (Tom Hanks' character) in Apollo 13 to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. The author, Dara, isn't comparing the characters, but rather the effect the character has on the audience. Lowell goes through a traumatic experience, but is essentially the same person when the movie ends. Where as Skywalker goes through some personal transformation, which we as the audience can then project ourselves onto, endearing that character to us.
